A couple of newborn shoots.

It’s been ages since I last posted, but I got caught up in uni, life, Christmas, New Year, you name it, I got snared!

In October I decided that I was going to start charging for my work, since people kept asking me to do their photography. I’m in no way a professional, but I do enjoy what I do and feel like I am growing and improving as I do more and more.

In October two precious lives came into our world, and it was an honor to capture those beautiful first few days.

This is Indah, she’s a precious little darling, her Daddy is Indonesian and her Mummy is Australian, and she seems to have inherited the best features from both her parents.

Then a week or so later, little Jimmy joined us. Although little may be stretching it a bit. He was over 10lbs when he was born!! He’s such a placid and squishy little guy and he was so incredibly well behaved while I poked and prodded him.

I really enjoy newborn photography. It’s fun!! And a perfect excuse to have a snuggle with the model when they so much as whimper! Ahhhh I love my life!

April’s portfolio

Here is a small sample of the photos I took of April for her portfolio. I must admit, she’s the most stunning girl I have ever laid eyes on. She is so beautiful in nature as well. She is so relaxed and sweet and has no idea just how beautiful she is. She never wears makeup, so I had to give her a little hand (past make up artist) and all she wore for this shoot is a light foundation, mascarre, a touch of eyeliner and some gloss. A real natural beauty!

My first paid gig….

I got contacted by a lady whose daughter wants a portfolio for her acting and modelling career. She has already done some acting in an independent film, and some more main stream film companies would like to work with her, and they are asking for her portfolio. I was shocked, and a little bit scared. That is waaaay out of my league. I expressed my inexperience and that it would probably be better to go with a professional photographer. I don’t know how to sell a person nor do I know what is required in a portfolio.  But both mother and daughter wanted me to do the job and didn’t seem to mind that I had never done it before. Well if they want me so bad, then there is no way I’m going to pass up the experience of shooting for a portfolio. So I’ve done a deal with them. I will take the photos, and they can buy what photos they like from the shoot. If they don’t like any of them, then no charge and they can work with a professional – no hard feelings. They won’t waste their money and I get the work experience. Win-win I say.

So now I’m trying to come up with ideas on how to market a person. This is very different to my normal stuff, and I like the idea of being challenged.

Stay tuned. The shoot is this Sunday. I’m so excited I might wet my pants. A little bit. :P

This is your life {Challenge}

The challenge was to create a photo essay of three or more photos that tells the story of a typical day-in-the-life.

My life isn’t that interesting. I clean my house, I care for my children, I cook, I clean, I do uni. So I tried to think outside the square a little.

Picture #1 -is my boy. This little man makes me grey with worry! He has special needs so I am constantly thinking about it, his needs and being his advocate. The phone is with me at all times just in case the school calls and I have to go rescue him. He is the centre of all decisions we make… “will he cope with it?”.  He makes me worry so much, yet he pulls a face like this one and he makes me laugh!  He’s flippin adorable!

Picture #2 – is my daily life – I blog, maintain my website, go on Facebook, learn new crafts, digitial scrapbooking and a university degree, all using  that keyboard. She’s very overworked, but hasn’t let me down yet.

Picture # 3 is my passion – I love being creative, whether it be with my sewing machine, or not. My psychologist I had when my son was first being diagnosed with special needs, told me to incorporate what brings me joy into my day, just to survive. I am surviving, and I am miserable if I don’t do something creative. My last uni semester was so flat out that sewing and crafting had to be put away for a while. I was utterly and completely miserable!!

Peek-a-boo challenge

Last weeks (yes, terribly slack!!) challenge was to come out from behind the camera and show our gorgeous faces.

So this afternoon, with the glorious afternoon sun behind me, in the bedroom, I shot this. I actually like this one. I don’t look too old, fat, feral, half dead or asleep!! This is the raw version of me, no make-up, nothing.. just me.

My baby girl

This little lady is my precious baby girl. Don’t let her hear me saying that. According to her “I’m NOT a baby! I’m a BIG girl!”. She won’t even let me cradle her to me anymore and insists on “proper cuddles”. No no no!! It’s too soon!!!  Mummy isn’t ready for proper cuddles. Mummy still needs to cradle her baby girl to her chest and snuggle her and rock her. Mummy still needs to nuzzle her cheeks and smell her hair. Mummy loves to look into her eyes and smile at her. Mummy is not ready for another big girl.

My beautiful girl

Over the last few weeks I’ve been marvelling at my big baby girl. She is maturing and growing so quickly, casting aside her little girlishness, and become an older little girl. Look at her! Growing up so fast into a beautiful little lady.

My boy

It was a cold and crisp afternoon, the sun was at the right height, it was not raining. It was time to drag my kids up to the end of the road for a photo shoot so I can practice. I wanted to have a crack at backlighting. My son, my poor little man was recovering from croup, but he pulled it together enough to let me take some photos of him. He is difficult to get into a good clear shot because he can’t keep still. Wiggle bum. That’s my boy!

Still Life Challenge

These beautiful roses were totally nicked from my Mum’s garden. You should smell these ladies, their scent is heavy and rich. Their petals are so velvety, smooth and soft like baby skin. But along with these soft and sweet ladies, comes their dangerous and deadly thorns. They catch onto your skin, and dig deep into your flesh, their cruel punishment for enjoying their beauty and scent.
